Draupadi Murmu was elected as the
fifteenth President of India. Although this was the 16th presidential election,
Murmu took office as the 15th president. Because the first President
Rajendra Prasad was elected twice. This great victory has a lot to be proud of.
There are many special features of this
sweet victory. First, she is the second woman
to hold the highest office in the country. A person from a tribal community has
become the country's supreme commander. Also, the first President born in
independent India. Another thing about her is that she is the youngest person
to hold this position.
Birth
and childhood
Sixty-four-year-old Draupadi was
born in a Santal tribal family in the Mayurbhanj district. Draupadi Murmu was
born in 1958 on June 20. Her father worked for the Panchayati Raj system as a
headman in the village. Biranchi Narayan Tudu, her paternal grandfather, was a
native of Mayurbhanj and lived in Baidaposi. Due to her tribal background, her
life had always been challenging and full of obstacles. She was an excellent student
and a great devotee of Lord Shiva since childhood.
The
Santhal community can be proud
Draupadi Murmu is from the
Santhal tribe, the third largest tribe in the country. In addition to Bihar,
Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha, the Santals also have roots in Bangladesh
and Nepal. Due to the lack of written historical records, not much information
is available about the origin of the Santals. However, the prevailing view is
that the Santals were a nomadic group that settled in the Chota Nagpur plateau
of Jharkhand before migrating to parts of Bihar and Odisha in the late 18th
century. We already know the fighting spirit and bravery of the Santal
army. The struggle of the Santhals against the oppression of the British army
is one of the most brilliant chapters in the history of independence.
